employment opportunities for graduates entering the job market

There are fewer and fewer employment opportunities for graduates entering the job market and this will have serious implications for higher education

Nowadays, public attention has been drawn to a serious issue that employment opportunities for graduates have become inadequate to the demand for jobs. This essay will show that fewer job opportunities are a challenge to graduates and the higher education system. Lack of work experience, high demanding jobs and insufficient job opportunities are factors which negatively impact both graduates and the higher education system.

To begin with, the demand for work experience frustrates the effort of graduates and students to access employment opportunities. A large number of companies consider work experience as a prerequisite to select right graduates, while students at university can be busy with their studies and even cannot do well in their majors, let alone taking part-time jobs. This would pose a challenge on higher education industries due to the ever-increasing burdens of studies and the inadequate job offers for students at university.

Another aspect of the challenge is that corporations set strict rules for graduates to obtain jobs. Despite the fact that many of the students may have the talent needed, the criteria set by organisations seem to be very high and as a result, a considerable amount of graduates fail to enter the job market. It’s therefore necessary that the higher education system be reformed to put emphasis on improving students’ techniques to meet the company requirements.

Moreover, the low availability of jobs cannot accommodate the huge number of graduates. This is supported by the fact that in China, the whole jobs just satisfy two thirds of graduates. Undoubtedly, considering the rapid growth in college enrolment and less job opportunities, an increasing number of people are concerned about the value of higher education in terms of its ability to enable them access job opportunities.

In conclusion, graduates and the higher education system are negatively affected by employment practices that emphasise experience and strict requirements hence locking out graduates from job opportunities. This can lead to the erosion of the value of higher education unless the challenge is tackled by reviewing the content of the education provided providing experience that would be accepted by the employers.
